I have not been able to go back to work and have not had any replies to applications. There was a provocative article about Tory MP’s needing Boris Johnsin to relax immigration rules as the foreign workforce have been so helpful during this crisis.
Yesterday my applications were Warehouse, courier, Hospital Porter, cleaner and PA. These were all very or relatively local. This is a familiar pattern. I do not get a reply or answer and I have a cv which has aptitude and familiarity with most of my roles applied for. That I am not ever called is infuriating. Occasionally in the recent years labourer comes up or gardener. So what this establishes is complete burial in single skill market for many home workers and a free shot at everything according to agency sponsorship. These agencies have control based on a pattern of delivery of contract terms through mass recruitment strategies to replace entire workforces. Then as the patronage group changes you get picked up by knowing people in the workforce which is now an agency. I have found this hard and an extra layer of prejudice and discrimination for jobs that were already sold on in order to not have to deliver the conditions called for locally.
It almost feels appropriate that older people, our parents are locked up during this as they actively promoted employers to ignore their children who they believe cannot be bothered to make these applications. They have fairies in their ears. That is to say they believe what they want. Even now when the entire student population was available to cover the shortfall for early farm jobs they prefer to believe it is not agency and union leadership making prejudiced employment decisions but their native workers not applying as it is beneath them. A need to intellectually reapportion blame has led to mistrusting applicants for no reason other than paperwork in the end. We are all being cut up and shared out as suitable for roles that suit a foreigner in fact becasue the local employer decides it is beneath us and we will not stay. Nor in fact does anybody stay at a job when the opportunity that presents is better elsewhere but this is ignored while people trek globally between jobs as migrants and victims in full employment struggling to raise and feed families that natives don't even dare to start dating due to fear they cannot afford to do the same.
I don’t consider society to be rigidly divided. Often it helps to start at our social station to understand what makes a person’s opinion and political beliefs but these are only lazy limits, expediency, convenience. A free mind can approach work without class burdens to choose an employment. However the white collar “manager” somehow is the only one from any trade at all who makes decsions that all manual workers should stick at what they know in order to facilitate imaginary improvements in managing them. The whole reason a workforce is recruited from elsewhere often began in order to break the familiarity which was leading to slower work and higher demands.
Now managers have really screwed up and cannot find jobs for their compatriots who are applying in their hundreds. They have sold the entire recruitment process with prejudice attached. It suits them to complain that I live too far or should not have left my last job as am not going to stick it out. They are beating us with sticks like naughty children and our willingness puzzles them. They are unwilling to process the information in front of their own eyes. Harry knows Barry know Mary knows “who the heck is this, i’d rather have a foreigner than someone native not from my immediate family or group of childhood friends”. They have been slotted neatly into a hierarchy which is failing in front of our eyes. This is the one our parents expected to go on forever for lack of political motivation to understand the world is not a racial golden egg. We now cannot get a job to help them out of this situation and perhaps would fail them but certainly the administrators are actively trying not to recruit us anyway. The choice in who is employed is used against skilling up other people and hanging onto to the misapplied advantage of control and leverage or manpower. The guarantees required to get onto a workplace today are that you will not rock the boat, one which should not be that easy to rock unless something fishy was going on.
So this is the climate of one week from end of lockdown. There are no jobs despite compliants there are no applicants added to plenty of people being highly dubious the virus is now safely managed. I see the logic of the flattening the curve is inevitably being played out. The announcement of an antibody test occurred with accolades but no genuine mention that it was about to be affected nationwide. There has been a fantastic uniformed services response but willingness for changes that can deliver further success are jammed as before with a crisis in income affecting more people than before still bizarrely considered a situation of priviledge that we don't want to lose by going to work.
the Office of National Statistics on Wednesday past (14-05-2020) declared 130,000 have had the virus in the last 2 weeks. This could realistically account for the last month since it takes 2 weeks to shake the bug. However that figure fits neatly in nowhere land. It is quite close to the growing official figure attached to confirmed infections which now (17-05-2020) is over 240,000. This makes 110,000 previous cases and we have here a figure which is for what? Ballpark (I think that is the american expression for very approimately). Really we could be doing the antibody test. It seems the concern is how many people are going to the park or for a drive to a beauty spot. We have been locked down then told to work, yet no information is going to be there beyond “stay alert”. More figures that say the same give the impression the antibody test is not of importance for the general public. No involvement and still we are chastised for our parents (read also leaders, authorities and managers) want us to find the same ficticious jobs we were only in before for the grace of being allowed them if in at all. Firms have not been employing workers but races and cliques, provoking prejudices it suits them to believe are ours. In order to build ever newer agencies and suit a low skilled highly managed economy How this could occur with real management is doubtful. This is due to profits being in crisis. As we were entering an age of recycling also were building more new tools and utilities with no apologies for being unable to service or unwilling the old. Health and safety insisted everything was brand new. You could not pass or carry out your health and safety test without being a clone or have no job opportunities. The army should mean tests could be delivered in days but we see them as it is a way of keeping the public uninvolved. I do not suggest the worst but this is not a sign much good is going on by necessity but within capacity all too easily. Then the call for foreign workers on top still makes me so sad to know how divided we are.
Complaining aside for still being too lazy with scolding and less rights than an immigrant, this system is suspected to not have made it safe to go back to work and we are trying to do this. One week in and the Rate less than one seems in doubt across many regions in the media. (note 1) Calls for a return to work seem naieve if some of this mega planning in the background is nothing more than defeatism. I shudder to see the test station are army run yet most of us are not getting tests. Are many of the soldiers and police officers and council workers unwell so it is known that we cannot either stay home or wait any longer.
Are the uniformed services well and clear of infection
The peace is deafening really. I hope we can muddle back to work but know the mystery of the economic opportunities of British people is more blown open now. We were not needed at all, even mocked by requests for foreign workers. Many, like me have frequently worked alongside them with little more prejudice than against false reports that they earn less and have less rights. If they earn anything less it is to pay an accommodation organiser a charge for what is probably cheaper rent than natives pay. One of my dastardly managers in my second last job where they sent me up like a plague of plagues pointlessly stirred to my disbelief the rent issue. Knowlingly (but falsely)he told a foreign colleague that he was losing and should do something about it £30 a week for rent. This to absolutely no reaction from both of us though the message was that locals didn’t have to pay their rent, do we not heck!! Rent was never abolished to British citizens, plus I have to get sacked whenever his type cries he hasn’t got enough weight.
Before this virus it was beginning to seem impossible these things were happening in all environments, crazy wicked profiteering. It did seem the system could not deliver any more an economy in the manner it presented itself. Of course it presented itself as greedy but that meant opportunities, polluting but that meant good management was easy. It was hard to support and present such ridiculous and frequently so unfriendly notions of management. Nonetheless it was prevailing over more and more unrealistic years. Then there was the declaration we were to have many many satellites in space to enable some more internet capability. It seemed the last green straw had just been crushed hypocritically and then all the world stopped travelling and some 8% of greenhouse gases have gone now (note 2). Early days of this virus seemed almost providential and I cannot throw this away. The human species had become the ultimate greedy god loving hypocrites. God here being someone who invalidates the earth since a mere spit could regenerate it.
